PLATFORM INNOVATION CENTRE
Name & Messaging
I collaborated with my friend Donna Holesworth — designer and creative director at Zinc Creative — on the brand and messaging for Platform, the innovation centre that opened in Calgary's East Village in 2020.
The name "Platform" was chosen because the space was imagined as a place that would provide support for inventors, innovators, and startups. Also, for its train platform connotations. The centre's East Village location (at 9th Avenue and 3rd Street SW) sits parallel to the rail lines, above a planned C-train light rail line, and on the same stretch of land where Calgary’s original train station once sat.
Just before opening, when Calgary’s innovation support organization CTI (Calgary Technologies Inc.) was selected to manage the property, they adopted the Platform name and rebranded CTI as Platform Calgary.
